Ten Questions with Christina Stoffo

Each and every Sunday, Chasing Records will feature a ‘Ten Questions’ interview with athletes, fighters, and other members of the sports industry.  This week, our seventh Chasing Records interview feature is with Christina Stoffo of Brooklyn, New York. FOX 5, ESPN, Fitness Model

ESPN

1. Tell us about your background – Where did you grow up? Big family? High School/College? Did you play sports?

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY where I lived with my Mom, Grandparents and Aunt.  My Grandma is one of eight brothers and sisters so I have a pretty big extended family.  I’m an only child though and the only grandchild too!  I went to Bishop Kearny High School which was pretty cool.  It is an all girls catholic school.  I sang in the Choir there.  I played softball for Parkville Youth Organization for at least 10 years. When I graduated BKHS in 1999, I went to Seton Hall University where I majored in Communications, minored in Psychology and discovered WSOU (Seton Halls Heavy Metal radio station.)  I DJed there for 4 years and is the reason why I got into radio as a career.  I graduated from SHU in 2003.

2. What are your favorite sports and teams that you follow?

I used to be really into the Mets and still am but don’t follow them as closely as I used to.  I’ve had season tickets to the Jets for 5 years and LOVE going to every game even the ones in the rain and snow!  I look forward to the day when I have to shovel out my seat!  I love watching Hockey and of course I’m into the WWE.

3. Who are some of your favorite athletes – past and present?

Well Mike Richter will always be my favorite Ranger.  He was actually the reason why I got into hockey.  I also love Chad Pennington.  If you put him on the Jets of today with their coaching staff of today he would have been one of the greatest quarterbacks in history!

FOX 5

4. What led to you wanting to get involved with communications – TV & Radio?

Well, when I was at Seton Hall I was a DJ on WSOU.  It was and still is a student run radio station which gave me the hands on experience I needed to have a small advantage over others trying to get into the business.  I never thought I would end up in news reporting traffic but sometimes life takes you down a path that you didn’t expect.  I started out as a fill in and worked my way up from the bottom… and that’s how I got onto The Michael Kay Show.  I started out as their back up and I guess they just liked me better after a while! lol  I worked hard and worked holidays and weekends and did what I had to do to prove that I was worth a full time position.  It all paid off… I am truly blessed.

5. Besides sports and your radio/TV work, what other hobbies and interests do you have?

I am really into fitness so I love working out!  I usually do my workouts after work during the week.  Up until recently I was bartending on the weekends.  I stopped that because I realized I hadn’t had a weekend off in something like 3 years…. thats crazy!

And honestly, I just love to relax at home with my boyfriend and my 2 dogs and enjoy my time with them.  Since I moved out of my house in Brooklyn I try to visit my family as much as possible.  Oh, and Live music!  Love going to see bands live when they are in the area.  There is nothing better then seeing your favorite bands singing their hearts out in a small venue.

I also play World of War Craft… a guilty pleasure I guess!

6.  Tell us about your experience with ESPN and The Michael Kay Show – How did that opportunity come about? What has the experience been like? How did it help you?

Well, Being on TMKS was the greatest experience of my radio career.  I started off as their fill in and eventually they asked me to be their full time traffic girl.  The cool thing about being the show was that they didn’t just treat me as a traffic reporters.  They actually treated me like I was part of the show.  Michael was so welcoming and we had the best chemistry on and off the air.  When we would be at live events together people would always ask if we were dating… that always made me smile because one, it wasn’t true and two, it meant that people were listening and that they actually noticed that we were good together — that’s the definition of good radio!

I was sad when they decided not to run traffic during his show anymore.  I fought it and what made me feel special was that Michael actually fought it too.  He didn’t want it to happen but the decision was made over his head and there was nothing that could be done about it.  Maybe one day they’ll want traffic reports again… so we’ll see!

The thing that helped me most from being on TMKS was that I actually developed a fan base.  I had a  blog on the ESPN website and it was the #1 viewed link on their page.  That’s crazy!  I was only the traffic reporter, but people actually saw me as something more then that!  What a great feeling!

7.  We know that you have modeling experience – What led to you getting involved with that? Is that something you will pursue in the future? What do you enjoy most about modeling?

Modeling was something that I always wanted to do and I’m happy that I did it when I did because TV doesn’t really like that kind of thing… but I have great photos that I can look back at when I’m 90 and remember what I looked like in my 20’s!  It’s one more thing I can check off on my “things to do before I die” list!

8.  It is obvious that you are very ambitious and dedicated as you’re involved with many different projects and continue to excel and succeed – So how do you manage to stay in shape with such a busy schedule?

It is hard!  I come from an over weight family so I am always working on it.  I workout at home with my boyfriend. We do Beach Body workouts.  Currently we are doing Power 90 along with a program called Shakeology.  Beach Body has played a huge part in my life especially because I am always active and trying to stay fit.

I am actually an Independent Team Beach Body Coach.  I recently took this on because I truly believe in their products and am totally into spreading the word about them.  Beach Body brings us programs like P90x, Power 90, Insanity, Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs, Slim in 6, etc.  They really  have a program for someone at any fitness level.

If you ever want to try out one of their products, just contact me. I can hook you up with all the information you need!

9.   In the past, you linked up with Chasing Records during their Full Focus Scholarship Fundraiser events for Wednesday Night Baseball.  Tell us about that experience and are you still involved with any promotional work or charitable causes?

It was awesome to come out and be a part of something great like a scholarship fundraiser.  Everyone was so welcoming and appreciative that I made it out to the event.  I know how important it is for our youth to continue on with their education and be able to make it to College so I think it’s wonderful that you go out of your way to make it possible for someone.

I’m currently really into the fight against animal cruelty.  My mom works at the ASPCA and now that I don’t bartend on the weekends anymore I have been really thinking about dedicating more of my time there.

10.  Where can fans, sponsors or other organizations find more information on Christina Stoffo?

I have a new website up so you can visit: ChristinaStoffoFitness.  This website will bring you to my Beach Body coaching website where you can buy beach body products through me, read my story and really research the company. If you are into fitness, want to start being healthy or are just looking for something new, then come visit my site.  You can also e-mail me through there and we can chat!  I’ll help you find something that will work for you.  Obesity is such a problem in our society these days and it’s surprising how many people really want to start working out and eating right, they just don’t know where to start.  We can figure it out together!

I am also on Facebook — Christina Stoffo.

It’s always good to see someone who has the spotlight in mind, but is also always so down to earth. As a fellow communication major, I realized how hard & cut throat it was to get into the business (which is why I’m not in it) and it’s nice to see someone who can take advantage of opportunity and make the best of it! Congrats on all the hard work, and good luck for your future!

  3. Jonathan I says:

    I LOVE CHRISTINA!
