A-Rod Returns, Andy Coming Soon

On Sunday, the New York Yankees got their most important hitter back in the line-up; the one and only: Alex Rodriguez.  Rodriguez was activated off the DL and he played in his first game since August 21st.  He went 2 for 5 with an RBI and reported no pain after the game.

The Yankees are 21-3 without A-Rod in the line-up this season, a stat is inexplicable.  The Bronx Bombers took 2 of 3 this weekend from the Toronto Blue Jays. As a result, their lead in the A.L. East increased to 2.5 games over the Tampa Bay Rays, while the Boston Red Sox trail by 9.5 games.

In other good news, Andy Pettitte threw another bullpen session on Saturday and said he felt fine.  He will throw another session today and if all goes well, he will make a start for a minor league game on Thursday, and his return to the Yankees is right around the corner.  His presence in the rotation is greatly needed.  He appeared to be on his way to a career season before his injury occurred, but the important thing is that he’s healthy for the stretch run and of course… healthy for October baseball.

The Baltimore Orioles come to town for the next three days.  On this Labor Day, the Yankees will send AJ Burnett out to continue off his strong recent outing.  The Yankees had their 8 game winning streak snapped yesterday, but look to start another one this afternoon.  The Yankees appear a lock for October at the moment, so now it’s just about getting everyone ready for that big run into the postseason.

As summer comes to an end, have a great and safe Labor Day everyone!
