College Football – Week # 8

** Game of the Week **

Wisconsin 31, Iowa 30

This week, there was another slug-fest between two Big Ten powers.  Wisconsin was coming into the game riding high off their win last week against the # 1 ranked Ohio State.  Some Big Ten fans thought it may have been a fluke and the Iowa match-up would really tell if Wisconsin was for real or not.  Wisconsin had to have some fourth quarter magic to pull it off, but they prevailed and extended their record to 7-1.  Wisconsin quarterback, Scott Tolzien, stepped up for the second week in a row with some  solid stats as he went 20 of 26 for 205 yards.  That may not sound like much, but Wisconsin is known as a ‘Power Run’ team.  So with this victory, the Heartland Trophy will be heading to Madison for at least another year.

** Upset of the Week **

Missouri 36, Oklahoma 27

Here we go again!  For the third straight week, the number 1 team in the Nation loss on the road – Alabama, Ohio State, and now Oklahoma have all been dealt a loss.  In this game it was just like the other three where the underdog just wanted it more, and they played like that from start to finish.  The Big 12 has been surprising this season.  Texas is bad and not what they used to be.  Nebraska got exposed a week ago and now Oklahoma goes down.  One thing that bothers me about Oklahoma is the fact that they are still using that hurry-up offense that looked to even confuse themselves at times.

** Performance of the Week **

Cam Newton, QB Auburn

Those that read In The Huddle last week know that my thoughts on Cam Newton — before the national media started jumping on the band wagon I told you that the kid is legit!  Newton had a career day, rushing for 217 yards and two touchdowns to lead fourth-ranked Auburn past sixth-ranked LSU, 24-17.  Coming into the game, LSU had the 6th best defense in the country, but Cam just took it to them.  As I’ve said before, I think Newton is now leading the Heisman Trophy race  — put all the Shoelace’ talk to rest.
