Colon Deals in Rotation Debut

First things first, just want to take a moment to wish Don Mattingly a Happy Birthday! One of the greatest Yankees of all-time, Donnie Baseball celebrated his 50th birthday yesterday! The Yankee Faithful here at Chasing800 wish him nothing but the best!

As for last night’s Yankee action…

Bartolo Colon made his first start as a Yankee and he was impressive going 6 and 2/3 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. My prediction wasn’t too far off, was it? Nice to see Colon throw a good game in place of Phil Hughes.

The Yankees were able to manage a series split with the Blue Jays after Tuesday night’s heartbreaking loss. Curtis Granderson went deep again and he continues to improve against lefties . It’s clear that Curtis now ‘gets it’ at the plate and is now turning into the threat we all thought he was back in Detroit. He is poised for a big season and I hope he makes it happen — he’s a likable guy and has the skills and athleticism of a superstar.

Not much was made of Mariano Rivera’s blown save Tuesday night. After the initial shock of seeing him falter, we are reminded that he is indeed human and this happens from time to time. No biggie, the team rebounded nicely!

Now it’s on to Baltimore and the Buck Truck. Always a good trip for the Bronx Bombers so this weekend should be no different. Just hope CC Sabathia can earn his first ‘W’ of the season while he’s down there. For now, the Yankees head into the off-day in 1st place and replace any negativity surrounding Mo’s meltdown with positive vibes and positive momentum. It’s Ivan Nova’s job to keep it rolling Friday night.
